3. Professional Education

Education is a crucial element of any strategy to reduce the duration of untreated psychosis.

Professionals who work with young people have a key role to play in identifying early warning signs and encouraging young people to seek early treatment.

DETECT have designed an education package for use in Cluain Mhuire, Elm Mount, Newcastle and St John of God Hospital services to inform these groups about duration of untreated psychosis, the impact of lengthy delays in receiving treatment and to inform professionals about the service we provide. The specific aim of this campaign is to reduce the duration of untreated psychosis by enhancing awareness of the illness and to provide professionals with clear guidelines on the importance of early detection, pathways to care and treatment.

If you are working with at risk people in this area, and feel your organisation would benefit from further education around this, please contact us here.
